Regardless of niche, I figure every blog should start with a nice ~about me~ post. A concise, recall of the author's story, experiences, or whatever else makes her, her. Here we go. I am 24 years old living in Silver Spring, Maryland, in the Washington, D.C. metro area. My boyfriend, Dan, and I moved here in May of 2019, just after I graduated with my master's degree and he returned from 27 months of service in the Peace Corps Panama. Dan and I met at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY, where we both went to undergrad.
I spent most of my childhood in the suburbs of Syracuse, NY and went to school with the same kids, grade 2-12. As a kid, I loved learning, and I still do. School was always my favorite place. In elementary school, I started participating in student council, musicals, pop warner cheerleading, softball, and orchestra. When I got to high school, I really did the most. I was in student council from day one of freshman year, they even gave us a tour of the school the week before starting so we knew where everything was. I thought I was so cool, I showed up with a full face of makeup and a gold purse (my friend Sydney can confirm). Throughout high school, outside of being over involved, I made the most incredible friends. It makes me smile to talk about them because I am so grateful we've remained close this long.

When I left for college, I had no idea what my experience would look like, but I did know that much like high school, I was going to do the most. Over four years I worked in admissions, was an orientation leader, studied abroad in Spain, performed in musicals, directed a production of Grease the Musical, hosted a 24 hour dance marathon #WoahTeddi, and made lifelong friendships. Like most people will tell you, college helped shape who I am and showed me what I'm capable of.
In the Fall of 2017, I started studying for my Masters in Higher Education Administration at Syracuse University. I remember talking to my advisor about my goals. I told her I had my sights set on a summer internship in Washington, DC. Because that's where Dan and I wanted to be after Peace Corps and grad school, that was our plan. She was hesitant to go all in on that goal with me (now that I'm on the other side of the desk, I totally get it). She wanted me to be realistic about how my interests could change over the course of two years, and how I shouldn't necessarily put all my eggs in the same basket as someone living in another country. Regardless of anyone's opinion (typical me) I secured an internship in Washington, DC at American University in the summer of 2018. I moved down there alone for the summer, but was lucky enough to have a best friend living down the street (hi, Brooke). I had a great time exploring the city and gaining invaluable work experience.

In April of 2019, I was offered the job I have now as an Academic Advisor at the University of Maryland. During memorial day weekend, Dan and I made the move to Silver Spring with the help of my mom and a few friends. We share a 837 square foot apartment that truly feels like home now. We have no cars, awesome friends, and loving families (who we do miss, shout out 315/585).
So that's me. I am dedicating this blog to all the things I love currently. And things that I will love, I guess? (let's be honest, mostly food and makeup) Thanks for reading, subscribe if you want to hear more!
